'Area Limpia' Bogotá: sustainable, innovative, and efficient street cleaning

We improve the quality of service for more than 1.5 million residents

Our colleagues at Sacyr Services carry out the most sustainable and efficient urban cleaning (street cleaning, waste collection and maintenance of trees and green spaces in the area) in Special Service Area No. 5 of Bogotá (Colombia).

We contribute with our experience and innovation in the Colombian capital with the installation of underground waste containers, which are a safer, more hygienic alternative to conventional bins, and we also incorporate nearly 100 sustainable vehicles to improve the quality of service to the citizenry.

These nearly 100 new units have greater collection capacity, which translates into a reduction of collection times and service improvement. The new fleet of vehicles has state-of-the-art technology and reduces emissions of polluting gases.

Underground waste containers

Underground waste containers provide a safer, more hygienic, and comfortable storage for citizens. Waste collection is done via side loading garbage trucks, through a hydraulic mechanism that rises after activating a remote control from inside the vehicle.

Thanks to moving the garbage containers underground and waterproofing, all the material disposed will be protected from sun-exposure. In addition, due to its mailbox shape on the surface, it hinders the access to dumpster divers, of street dwellers and recyclers, a situation that dissuades users from separating trash directly at the container.

Sacyr Services

Sacyr Services leads the consortium Area Limpia SAS ESP, which won the Urban Cleaning contract of the Special ASE 5 of Bogotá (Colombia) for an eight-year term, with an estimated total of nearly €170 million.

The area pertaining the contract is Special Service Area No. 5, which includes the town of Suba, to the north of the Colombian capital, and includes an estimated population of 1.5 million inhabitants.
